Making a Myst presentation with Prezi
I’ve been asked to give a presentation to headteachers in our local cluster about our Myst lessons (mentioned previously). Whilst I don’t feel like an expert on the subject (unlike Tim Rylands who first suggested using the game in the classroom), it is always nice to be able to speak to people about the things that have been taking place in our classroom.
I usually set up Powerpoint / Keynote slides to support these kinds of presentations. However, I recently came across Prezi… an online tool which lets you make presentations in a completely different way. Rather than having sets of slides, all of the information in your presentation can be placed on a single space (see the image below). The objects (including text / images / video) can be moved, rotated and resized, and then paths can be drawn between them to guide the presentation in the order that you choose.
At first, the interface can be a bit fiddly, but after watching the help videos, and spending some time playing, I’m really impressed with it. My Myst presentation can be viewed here. It might not all make sense without hearing the things that I’m hoping to speak about, but there are some interesting quotes from my class on there.

It will be interesting to see how Prezi develops, and how teachers and pupils might be able to explore the tool in the classroom. I’d love to be able to give my class a chance to play with it, and see what they think of the advantages / disadvantages of it, over something like Powerpoint.
Have you played with Prezi yet?

Prezi looks really interesting! You’ve inspired me to give it a look!

Just got my invite this last week. It is taking some time to learn the interface but it looks so cool when you’re done. A science teacher I know created a very sweet presentation on atoms, electrons, etc with Prezi. It helped kids understand the concept because Prezi allows zooming in and out.
I also like that I can download my finished presos. Thanks for sharing yours!

Just made my first prezi presentation for analyzing a sentence for parts of speech. Once I got the hang of it, I loved it! I can see many possibilities for classroom use. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
